ILO Global Media Competition on Labour Migration 2023

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has launched its ninth annual Global Media Competition. Its goal is to discern between fair and balanced media coverage of labor mobility. Negative and stereotypical public narratives can exacerbate discrimination and abusive practices against migrant workers, including forced labor, and undermine societal cohesiveness.

“Discrimination and xenophobia against migrant workers are unfortunately commonplace problems that must be addressed.” This initiative aspires to honor the work of journalists who shine light on migrant workers’ accomplishments, hardships, and contributions to society via the power of narrative,” says Katerine Landuyt, Officer in Charge of the ILO Labour Migration Branch and one of the competition judges.

ILO Global Media Competition Eligibility

  1. The competition is open to professional and student journalists and will be judged by a panel of international migration and journalism experts.
  2. The winning entries will be selected according to a range of criteria including creativity, accuracy, balance and the positive portrayal of labour migration, including the multidimensional aspects of migrant workers’ lives.
  3. Journalists are invited to submit articles showing exemplary media coverage on labour migration and fair recruitment.

ILO Global Media Competition Benefits
