Apply Now: Cowrie Foundation Scholarships 2023/2024 for Black British students

Cowrie Foundation Scholarships 2023/2024 applications are now being accepted. The University of Manchester has joined with the Cowrie Scholarship Foundation to provide scholarships to Black African and Caribbean heritage applicants from under-represented socioeconomic backgrounds.

For the next decade, the Cowrie Scholarship Foundation will sponsor 100 Black British students at UK colleges. Candidates must be habitually resident in the United Kingdom and plan to begin undergraduate studies in September 2023. Subject to good progress, the scholarship is valid for the duration of your program of study. Two scholarships are offered for students pursuing any degree program, while four scholarships are available for students pursuing a degree program within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Cowrie Foundation Scholarships 2023

  • The scholarship will cover your home UK tuition fees and a maintenance stipend of up to £8,000 for each year of your course.

Cowrie Foundation Scholarships 2023 Eligibility

  • Applicant must identify as belong to one of the following ethnic groups:
    • Black or Black British – Caribbean
    • Black or Black British – African
    • Mixed – White and Black Caribbean
    • Mixed – White and Black African
    • Other Black background
  • Have firmly accepted an offer of a place by the relevant UCAS deadline on a first undergraduate full time degree programme at The University of Manchester commencing study in the 2023/2024 academic year.
  • Have been assessed for fee status as a ‘home’ student.
  • Have a household income of £25,000 per annum or less.
  • Made an application to your regional student funding authority for income assessed UK government financial support for higher education students. The regional student funding authorities are: Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, Student Finance Northern Ireland and the Student Awards Agency for Scotland. Ensure you have given consent to share the information with the University, as this information will be used to determine eligibility.

Cowrie Foundation Scholarships 2023 Application

As part of the application process, they would like you to submit a personal statement of no more than 700 words explaining:

  • Why the scholarship would be beneficial to your studies
  • How it would help you to achieve your academic goals
  • How your education would be of future benefit to your community and/or society
  • What achievements, academically and personally, are you most proud of? This could include overcoming a challenging personal circumstance. There are no right or wrong answers to these questions; they are keen to hear your personal story. Prepare this offline and upload the statement using the ‘Choose File’ button in question 15.
